LASL Valuers Conference was held on 23rd of March 2018 at Hotel Taj-Samudra, Colombo, with the participation of representatives of members of LASL and the authorized valuers of LASL. This forum of was organized as an initiative to develop the relationship between vlauers and leasing and finance institutions.
During the discussion, Chairman and the Board of Directors of the LASL highlighted several issues encountered by the member Companies and concerns expressed by regulators, in the areas of offering higher valuations, issuing valuation reports without physical examinations, employing unqualified personnel for inspections etc.
Valueres were also given opportunity to express their issues and the problems encountered in their day-today operation. The conference was followed by cocktails in order to develop network and connectivity of the participants.
The Leasing Association of Sri Lanka (LASL), jointly with the Finance Houses Association (FHA), organized the first-ever international conference with the Bangladesh Leasing & Finance Companies Association (BLFCA), with the view of sharing the best practices and information in relation to leasing and finance industry for the benefit of two countries.
28 delegates of BLFCA including the Chairman, Directors and Chief Executive Officers of Member Companies and senior officials of Bangladesh Bank visited Sri Lanka on a Three-Day Study tour, which included discussions, group visits to finance and leasing companies and a city tour, commencing form 26th April 2017.
A full day conference was held on the first day at Hotel Galadari, Colombo, with the participation of Chairman and the Board of Directors of the LASL, Chairman of FHASL and the senior officials of the members of LASL. This conference was organized with the theme of “Sharing Best Practices with the Financial Institutes of Sri Lanka. During the session, several presentations were made by representatives and guest speakers on selected areas of importance.
BLFCA delegates were provided with the opportunity to visit financial institutions of Sri Lanka during the second day. Accordingly, they visited Assetline Leasing Company Limited, People’s Leasing & Finance PLC, SMB Leasing PLC, Lanka Orix Finance PLC, LB Finance PLC and Central Finance PLC and experienced the real working processes of these selected member companies. Third day was dedicated for the city tour for the delegates to the ancient and cultural city of Kandy.
This was noted as an historical event of the leasing industry of the Sri Lanka, where collaborative discussions were held with two neighboring countries to facilitate better economic prosperity and to redesign the Leasing and Finance industry in future.
The annual get-together; the most awaited and exciting occasion of LASL event calendar, was held on 4th August 2017, at Hotel Taj Samudra Colombo, under the theme, “ Rio Carnival”. This was a platform for those in the leasing and finance industry to connect with their peers and interact with each other in order to develop and improve network and connectivity, despite of the competition in the field.
The event was attended by large number of representatives, including the senior officials of the nonbanking leasing and finance companies in LASL membership and the representatives from other stake holders such as Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (CRIB), insurance companies, courier services, equipment providers etc.
LASL was able to host the get-together of year 2017, as a successful and fruitful event due to the sincere commitment of the organizing committee, led by Mr. Ashan Nissanka. The Board of Directors of LASL were also extended their fullest corporation to ensure the success of the event. Mr. C. P. De Silva and Dr Dilanjan Soysa, two pioneers of the leasing and finance industry, were graced the occasion giving an opportunity to edgily waiting participants to interact with them, while enjoining the celebrations. True to the theme of the event, the get-together was carried out with flare and style and produced the atmosphere of a carnival.
Several fun games and a referral draw were conducted during the event and the winners were offered with attractive and valuable gifts, including Air Tickets, Electronic Equipment etc.
LASL will continue to host the annual get-together in upcoming years, in order to enhance the competitive spirit and camaraderie of the leasing community to develop best practices, which benefits our country, our industry, our customers and all our stakeholders.
LASL conducted a customized training programme for the employees of its members on the topic on Systematic Approach on Sales, on 20th June 2017 at Excel Word Colombo. Sales officers, Sales Executives and Sales Managers were the target group of this seminar and it was conducted by Mr. Sanjeewa Samarsinghe, who is a certified professional marketer. Participants were able to obtain in-depth understating on following key areas associated with sales and marketing activities.
The official website of the Leasing Association has been re-launched at the Board meeting held on 17th August 2018. The website revamping project was carried out under the supervision of Mr. Ananda Seneviratne, Chairman of LASL.
The website has been upgraded with a fresh and contemporary facelift using the latest technology in order to make it a more user friendly platform enabling easy access to explore it via any mobile device and to keep abreast of latest information about the leasing industry. Directions, Circulars and Guidelines issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which are applicable to the Non-Bank financial institutions, could also be directly accessed and downloaded via this new website. Apart from all other features, this new website will facilitate the LASL membership to advertise their employment vacancies to attract potential candidates at absolutely zero cost and the interested parties are able to forward their applications to respective employers directly

LASL Valuers Conference was held on 13th March 2020 at Hotel Cinnamon Lake, Colombo, with the participation of representatives of members of LASL and the authorized valuers of LASL. This forum of was organized as an initiative to develop the relationship between vlauers and leasing and finance institutions.
Mr. Montini Warnakula, Board Member welcomed the participants and the Chairman of LASL Mr. Sanjeewa Bandaranayake made the keynote speech highlighting the importance of the service of the automotive valuers. Mr.Chaminda Hettiarachchi, Vice Chairman of LASL made a special presentation covering the recent issues related to the vehicle valuation and code of ethics which should be strictly applicable to the valuers when they issuing valuation reports. During the time allocated for discussion, the Chairman and board members were made clarifications for the questions raised by the valuers. The Chairman requested from all valuers to the LASL Secretariat the details on fake chassis numbers and suspicious information which they found at their day today duties.

As per a decision of the Board of Directors of LASL, a Standard Certificate has been prepared for each licensed Valuer to substantiate his eligibility for issuing valuation reports. Issuing of Certificates were commenced on 3rd March 2021 with the participation of Board Directors and few invitees from LASL Valuers at Renuka Hotel, Colombo in a short ceremony by adhering to the health guidelines. The Chairman of LASL Mr. C.S. Hettiarachchi explained the importance of the Certificate and reminded valuers the norms to be followed by them when issuing valuation reports for LASL member companies.
